BMW M4 Finance Calculator: APRs and Pricing Explained

You've found the M4 you want: Competition, xDrive, maybe a 3.0 BiTurbo, and the dealer's handed you a finance quote. It might be a good one. It might not be. Without something to measure it against, there's genuinely no way to tell from the number alone.

That's what Prefinance is for. We take the dealer's own finance example for the exact car in front of you and compare it against the best available rate from our panel of finance brokers for that type of vehicle. On average, that comparison turns up savings of up to 30% against dealer finance. Rates and calculations correct at time of posting but are subject to change.

What's the difference between PCP and HP on an M4?

Both are hire purchase agreements in the legal sense; the car isn't yours until the last payment clears, but they split the cost differently. HP spreads the full price, minus your deposit, evenly across the term, so every payment chips away at ownership; that's why the HP rows above carry a higher monthly figure than the PCP rows on a comparable car. PCP holds back a Guaranteed (Minimum) Future Value until the end, which you can pay to keep the car, hand back, or roll into the next one, and it's that deferral that keeps the monthly payment down.

What about Lease Purchase?

If you're financing an M4 through a business, Lease Purchase is sometimes on the table alongside PCP and HP. It works differently enough, and few enough buyers use it, that it's not covered in depth here. The main thing to know is that Prefinance can't give you an instant Lease Purchase comparison like it can for PCP and HP. You'd need to apply and get a quote directly from one of our panel brokers.

How does Prefinance work out the saving?

You give us the vehicle details by registration, by make and model, or by pasting in a link from a dealer site or a listings site like Autotrader, as long as that page shows a finance example. We read the dealer's own quote and compare it against the best available rate from our broker panel for that type of vehicle. The comparison assumes you'd qualify for the panel's best rate, which depends on your credit profile, and that the dealer is FCA authorised. Every comparison you run is saved, so you can come back and check previous ones, not just your latest.

What affects the rate you're offered?

Credit score does most of the work, but not all of it. A bigger deposit lowers the amount you're borrowing and often the rate that comes with it — see the £20,000-versus-£25,000 comparison above. A longer term usually lowers the monthly payment but adds to the total interest. The car's age and mileage matter too, which is part of why the 2016 example above sits at a different rate profile to the 2024s.

What to check before you apply

  1. Confirm the deposit and mileage in your comparison match the dealer's actual quote — you can edit the deposit, but a mismatch elsewhere skews the result.

  2. Work out your own amount of credit (price minus deposit) and check it against £60,260 — it decides which consumer protections actually apply.

  3. Ask what happens to your monthly payment if the matched lender's GFV differs from the dealer's — don't assume it'll match exactly.

  4. Read the broker's full representative example before signing — it carries the exact figures for your deal, not the illustrative ones above.

  5. If you're buying through a business and considering Lease Purchase, expect to apply for a quote rather than getting an instant comparison.

None of this tells you in advance whether the dealer's M4 quote in front of you is already good — sometimes it is. The only way to know for sure is to run the comparison on your specific car and see what the panel comes up with.

Disclaimer

Rates are the best available and may not be available for this exact vehicle. Mileages, vehicle age, term of loan, the exact lender and the type of finance can all affect the rate and monthly payment. Rates can change and previous examples shown may no longer be available. We use large language models (LLMs) to extract data from website pages to calculate our savings. LLMs can make errors so it's important you check the information on any quotes with the brokers in our panel. They will re-run all quotes with their individual lenders panels to find the appropriate deal based on today's rates.

Our assumptions

To provide our comparisons, we make the following assumptions:

1
You have a good credit rating and will qualify for the provider's best available rate.
2
The vehicle you have chosen is from a dealer who is FCA authorised.
3
If the example is for a personal contract plan (PCP), that the GFV (guaranteed future value) is the same. If the lender is different from the dealer's lender, the GFV could be higher or lower, which will affect your monthly payments.
4
That the deposit is the same. You can change the deposit using the edit button)
5
For Lease Purchase you will need to request a quote from one of partners by submitting an application.
