Mercedes-Benz CLA Finance Calculator & APRs Explained
Whether you're financing an AMG Line or electric CLA, the number on the dealer's finance quote tells you nothing on its own. It only becomes meaningful once it's set against a genuine alternative, which is exactly the comparison most buyers never think to run.
Prefinance runs that comparison for you: we take the dealer's own finance example for the exact CLA you're looking at and compare it against the best available rate from our panel of finance brokers for that type of vehicle. On average, that turns up savings of up to 30% against dealer finance; though that's an average across many deals, not a promise for yours, and some dealer CLA finance is already competitively priced.

What's the difference between PCP and HP on a CLA?
Both are hire purchase agreements in the legal sense; the car isn't yours until the final payment clears, but they split the cost differently. HP (Hire Purchase) spreads the full price, minus your deposit, evenly across the term, so every payment builds toward ownership. PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) defers a chunk of the price to a Guaranteed (Minimum) Future Value at the end, keeping the monthly payment down; you can then pay it to keep the car, hand it back, or roll it into your next one.
The 2026 AMG Line pair above is about as clear a demonstration as this data gets: identical car, identical price, identical deposit, and a monthly payment of £514.24 one way against £843.65 the other. The gap is the £19,291 GFV being deferred rather than paid down. Neither is automatically the better deal; the HP route costs more each month but leaves you owning the car outright, while the PCP route leaves that final payment still to settle if you want to keep it.
Either way, Prefinance's instant comparison rests on one shared assumption: that the lender you're matched with would set the same GFV the dealer did. If your matched broker structures it differently, your real monthly payment could come out higher or lower than the illustrative figure.
Petrol, plug-in or electric — does it change the finance?
The CLA is unusual in that one nameplate now covers all three, and the table above has an example of each. It's worth knowing what that means before you compare quotes.
The 250e is the plug-in hybrid. Its chargeable battery gives it a much lower official CO2 figure than a petrol CLA, which matters a great deal if you're running one as a company car through Benefit-in-Kind — though that's a question for an accountant or tax adviser rather than something our comparison accounts for. GFVs on plug-in hybrids have generally aged better than on full electric cars, since they keep some of a conventional engine's predictable depreciation.
The 250+ with EQ Technology is the full electric CLA. Lenders have historically taken a more cautious view of GFVs on electric cars than on combustion equivalents, since used-EV values have been harder to pin down — and you can see the effect in the table, where the electric car's £10,577 GFV is a noticeably smaller share of its price than the plug-in or petrol examples carry. That gap has narrowed as the used-EV market has settled, but it's worth querying the specific figure you're offered rather than assuming it will match a petrol car's. Electric vehicles are also no longer exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty in the UK — that exemption ended from April 2025 — so factor VED into your running costs alongside the finance payment.
How does Prefinance work out the savings?
You give us the vehicle — by registration, by make and model, or by pasting in a link from a dealer site or a listings site like Autotrader, provided that page shows a finance example. We read the dealer's own quote and compare it against the best available rate from our broker panel for that type of vehicle. The comparison assumes you'd qualify for the panel's best rate, which depends on your credit profile, and that the dealer you're buying from is FCA authorised. Every comparison you run is saved, so you can come back and check previous ones too.
Representative APR means at least 51% of customers offered finance by that provider get that rate or better. It's a genuine benchmark, not a guarantee of your own rate. How much you'd actually save depends on the specific car and your own circumstances.
What affects the rate you're offered?
Your credit score does most of the work, but deposit size, finance structure and the GFV contribute to the monthly figure too. The table shows each of these clearly: the PCP-versus-HP pair isolates the structure, the CLA 180's £7,000 deposit against the zero-deposit electric car shows what putting money down does, and the two 2022 AMG Lines show mileage feeding through to both price and GFV — £11,247 held back on the 32,000-mile car against £7,950 on the one with 78,250 miles. A longer term usually lowers the monthly payment but adds to the total interest paid. And a factor most buyers never think about: arranging finance isn't done for free, and a slice of what you pay reflects commission built into the deal on both the dealer's and the broker's side; that's exactly the kind of built-in markup a genuine cross-panel comparison is designed to catch.
What to check before you apply
Confirm the deposit and mileage in your comparison match the dealer's actual quote — the deposit is editable, but a mismatch elsewhere skews the result.
If you're looking at a zero-deposit quote like the two above, remember you're financing the entire cash price, which raises both the monthly payment and the total interest.
If comparing PCP against HP on the same car, look at both the monthly payment and whether you actually want to own the car outright at the end — the 2026 AMG Line pair above shows how substantial that difference can be.
Read the broker's full representative example before signing anything — it carries the exact figures for your deal, not the illustrative ones above.
None of this tells you upfront whether the dealer's CLA quote in front of you is already good — sometimes it is. The only way to know for sure is to run the comparison on your specific car and see what the panel of brokers deliver.
